Small & Mighty

In a trailblazing collaboration with Small & Mighty, a leading digital marketing agency, Virtulane took on a bold challenge from Queensland Gaskets. The aim was to revolutionise how gaskets are identified by developing a groundbreaking augmented reality (AR) mobile application.

THE CHALLENGE

Queensland Gaskets, a significant industry player, was keen to shake up the world of gasket identification. Their vision was a mobile app that could instantly identify gaskets using a smartphone camera. The goal extended beyond just quick sample identification to potential future integration with the company’s logistics systems for on-the-spot ordering and collection.

THE SOLUTION

Focusing on compatibility, Virtulane rolled up its sleeves to outline the architecture for the mobile app. Using computer vision and pattern recognition, the solution was engineered using OpenCV and Unity, complemented by custom C# code. This approach allowed the team to create a responsive and efficient solution without leaning on resource-heavy cloud services.

OBJECTIVES

  • Develop an intuitive and efficient mobile application for both iOS and Android platforms.
  • Enable the instant identification of gaskets through computer vision techniques.
  • Design the app to integrate into Queensland Gaskets’ future logistics solutions easily.

INTEGRATION

Given the varied platforms and devices, Virtulane instituted a series of comprehensive tests, utilising scaled gasket models and varying image capture angles. This ensured the app would work seamlessly across devices, meeting the project’s objectives.

EXAMPLE OF SUCCESS

The effectiveness and precision of the app’s computer vision capabilities received high praise from Queensland Gaskets. This not only met the immediate objective but also opened new doors for extending the technology into the company’s broader logistics systems.

OUTCOME

The collaboration between Small & Mighty, Queensland Gaskets, and Virtulane has set a new standard in applying AR technology across industries. The AR mobile app revolutionised gasket identification, providing immediate efficiency gains and paving the way for future logistical improvements.
